Self-Love is an Inside Job

Self-love is such a tag word these days it’s beginning to lose its value. It’s also become so commercialized that if you’re really trying to wrap your brain around this concept for yourself, it can be overwhelming. How does one truly accomplish loving oneself? I am no expert, that’s for sure, but I’ve been on my own journey for a few years and here is what I know.

No one can do it for you. Sure as a one-legged duck swims in a circle, you have to find your own love of self. It simply does not matter a hoot how much someone is deeply in love with you. Unfortunately, love from another can’t rub off on you and typically what happens is you just don’t believe them because you’re convinced once they really see the “real” you, that love will surely dwindle. YOU have to dig in deep and figure this out on your own.

You have to put effort into loving yourself. In my line of work, I hear my fair share of women making negative comments about themselves or discussing how hard it is to have a breakthrough and celebrate who they are, rather than wishing they were someone else. The thing is, nothing changes till you change. You actually have to put really energy and real effort into figuring out how to best love and take care of yourself. For me, it’s walking, journaling, reading, listening to podcasts, writing, and reiki. I didn’t just wake up one day and find that these things helped me. I had to go through lots of activities to figure out which ones felt good.

There is no destination. You’ll never just wake up one day and love yourself so much that you’ll never struggle again. It’s a true lifelong journey but the good news is that once you figure out what pitstops on that journey work for you, when you do take a self-love tumble you’ll know how to get right back up and do what needs to get done to get yourself back on track.

When you’re really ready to take a deep dive, just remember to trust yourself and just like you’d give to anyone else, give yourself patience, space, and forgiveness. You deserve it.

If you’re ready to take a little leap of faith then I recommend that you hop on over to my Services page and consider a Life Coaching and/or a Reiki session, which is complimentary until January 1, 2022 (Ohhhhhh snap!)
