You’re Not Lazy. You’re Just Evolving

I will bet some of you, at some point in your life, can identify with one or more of these scenarios:

—You used to get up in the mornings and do this and that thing like clockwork (exercise, meditation, reading, etc.) You’ve done them for years and it was like second nature. Now you can’t muster the energy to even think about doing any of them.

—You used to be fascinated by this and that thing (podcasts, building model airplanes, learning dance routines, etc). You’d spend hours digging into them because they made you feel good. Now you’re instantly bored at the thought of them.

—Your whatever was like a well-oiled machine (work, marriage, friendships, etc). It never bothered you to engage in it and used to bring you so much joy. You looked forward to being in it for years and now you feel like it’s nothing but a burden and if you could disappear forever from it without causing a ruckus, you’d walk away instantly.

I can’t tell you how many of my clients call themselves lazy in the various situations I’ve described above. But what if they’re not lazy? What if they’re simply not the same person anymore and need to figure out what fulfills them now? I don’t know about you, but I’m not the same person at 51 that I was at 21. My interests could not be more different, and there is no way I could uphold the same habits I did at that age. I also couldn’t be less interested in them now.

So, rather than believing there’s something wrong with you, or that you’re now somehow defective, here is my challenge to you:

Get curious.

What do you find yourself gravitating toward in your daily life? What thoughts keep coming back around? What grabs your attention now? What seems interesting now that never did before? What do you want to know? Who do you want to know? How do you want to learn about these new things or people?

You’re not lazy, folks; you’re just not feeding your curiosity.

Guess what happens when you’re bored? For most people, anxiety. Then they find some way to check out and numb (TV, gaming, shopping, etc). Guess what will knock you out of anxiety instantly? You guessed it:

Curiosity.

Let’s get curious, friends.

. . . . .

If you’re ready to release what’s holding you back and start living a life you’re excited about, reach out. I can help with that.
